  2. Use Your Opti ID: Log in using your regular Opti ID, just like you would for any other Optimizely product.
  3. Switch Organizations (if applicable): If you belong to multiple organizations, ensure you switch to the organization where Opal has been enabled.
  4. Navigate to Opal:  Once logged in, you will see "Opal" as an option in your Optimizely dashboard. Click on it to enter the Opal environment.

Understand Opal Chat

  • Your Conversation Hub: The first thing you'll see is the Opal Chat interface. This is where all your past conversations with Opal are stored.
  • Persistent History: A key feature is that your chat history is persistent across all Optimizely products where Opal is enabled. This means your conversations stay with you, no matter which product you're using Opal with.

Configure & Manage Opal

If you are an administrator, you'll have additional options to manage Opal within your organization.

Enable Opal

  1. Access Connections: In the left navigation panel, click on 'Connections'.
  2. Control Product Access: This section allows you to easily manage where Opal is enabled. You can choose specific Optimizely products and instances where you want Opal to be active.
  3. Activate/Deactivate: Use the checkboxes beside each instance to enable or disable Opal's availability.

Configure Instruction Agents

Opal comes with prebuilt instruction agent templates, which are deactivated by default. You can activate them and customize their details.

  • Parts of an Instruction Agent:
    • Name: A clear name to identify the agent.
    • Details: Instructions on what the agent does, how it behaves, and a handle (shortcut) for users to call it.
    • Where to Use: Controls which product and instance can access this agent.
    • When to Use: Defines the conditions or trigger phrases that activate the agent.
    • Active Status: The agent must be active to function.
  • Writing Agent Details (Instructions):
    • Think Like an Intern: Imagine you're giving instructions to an intern. Provide context, explanations, and clear actions.
    • Markdown vs. Plain English: You can use Markdown for advanced formatting or simply write instructions in plain English.
    • Structure is Key: The more detailed and structured your instructions are, the better the agent will perform.
    • General Best Practices for Agent Instructions:
      • Objective/Goal: State clearly what the agent is intended to achieve.
      • Mode Activation: Specify the trigger phrase or condition.
      • Execution Steps/Process: Provide a detailed, step-by-step guide, including which tools to use, prompts for the user, and expected outputs.
      • Response Format Guideline (Optional): Define how the agent should format its responses (e.g., table, list).
      • Constraints/Safety Measures (Optional): Outline any limitations or safety measures the agent should observe (e.g., privacy concerns).
  • Key Principles for Great Agents:
    • Clarity: Use clear and concise language.
    • Specificity: Provide specific instructions and examples.
    • Structure: Organize instructions logically.
    • Actionability: Ensure instructions provide clear guidance on what the agent should do.
    • Context: Provide sufficient context for the agent's role and purpose.
