Outline

Welcome

In Optimizely Analytics, secure and structured access control is managed through two core components: User Authentication and Users and Groups Management.

User Authentication ensures that only authorized individuals can log in to the platform, while Users and Groups Management defines how permissions and responsibilities are assigned across the organization. Together, these features enable administrators to control not only who can enter the system but also what they can do once inside.

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  • Understand the available authentication methods in Optimizely Analytics.

  • Manage users, groups, and roles within your organization.

  • Assign, update, and remove user access efficiently.

User Authentication

Optimizely Analytics supports two authentication methods:

  • Analytics Authentication Service – Default password-based login, where users receive an email invitation to set their password.

  • Enterprise SSO (Single Sign-On) – Integration with corporate credentials for centralized access management.

To learn more about setup and configuration, see the User Authentication documentation.

Users

  • Each user has a user ID (usually their email address) and belongs to one or more groups.

  • Roles can be assigned at the user or group level to define permissions.

Groups

  • Groups are collections of users; a user can belong to multiple groups.

  • Groups can be hierarchical, meaning one group can belong to another.

  • Useful for sharing and permission management—e.g., all members of the Design group can access the same dashboards.

  • Each organization has an implicit All Users group, which includes every user and cannot be deleted.

  • User – Default role with no administrative rights.
