Authorization and access control
Outline
Welcome
Authorization and access control in Optimizely Analytics ensure that the right people can perform the right actions and viewthe right data. Authorization determines what actions you can take based on your assigned roles, while access controldetermines which objects (datasets, dashboards, explorations, etc.) you can view, edit, or share.
After completing this module, you will be able to:
Understand how roles and permissions determine access in Optimizely Analytics.
Identify the different access levels available for objects.
Apply folder-based access controls to manage object permissions efficiently.
Authorization
Your ability to perform certain actions in Analytics is based on the roles assigned to you. For example, the Org Admin role grants full administrative privileges across the organization.
Access Control
Access to objects in Analytics is granted through permissions and access levels. You can gain access to an object by:
Belonging to a group that has access.
Belonging to a parent group that has access.
Being explicitly granted access.
Holding a role (such as Org Admin) that provides access.
Access Levels
You can click the Share icon on any object to see who has access and at what level. Some users may have implicit access via roles or group memberships that are not displayed here.
Can view – View only; cannot edit or share.
Can edit – Edit only; cannot share.
Full access – View, edit, and share.
Folder-based Access Levels
Analytics organizes objects into hierarchical folders. When access levels are applied to a folder, all objects inside inherit that level—unless specific objects have their own explicit access settings.
