Outline

In this module, you will learn about the Tasks Gadget in Optimizely CMS. The Tasks Gadget functions much like the Sites and Project Items gadgets, offering you another way to manage and navigate your work. While tasks can also be accessed within the Navigation Gadget, this gadget provides a dedicated space for task management, giving you more flexibility depending on your preferred workflow.

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand the purpose and function of the Tasks Gadget.
  • Navigate between different task states (e.g., Draft, Published, etc.).
  • Decide when to use the Tasks Gadget versus managing tasks through the Navigation Gadget.

Purpose of the Gadget

The Tasks Gadget is designed to make it easier to track and manage content tasks without having to rely solely on the Navigation Gadget. By providing its own tab, it gives you a clear overview of ongoing work and lets you focus on tasks in one place.

Key Features

  • Dedicated Task View: Displays tasks independently of the Sites and Project Items gadgets.
  • Default Sorting by Draft: Automatically shows items currently in draft mode, helping you quickly identify unfinished work.
  • Customizable Views: Offers multiple options to switch between different task states, such as published items, scheduled items, or other filters.

Example Use Cases

  • Use the Tasks Gadget when you want a quick snapshot of your draft items without navigating through the full content structure.
  • Switch between different task states (like scheduled or published) to review what’s upcoming or already live.
  • If you’re working on a project launch, you can monitor drafts across different content items without jumping into project-specific views.

Best Practices

  • Use the Tasks Gadget alongside the Navigation Gadget if you want to keep project items and task lists separate for clarity.
  • Regularly check the Drafts view to avoid leaving unfinished content unpublished.
  • Explore the additional task state filters to get a complete overview of your workload.
