Why use Cross-sells & Product Recommendations?

Optimizely Configured Commerce has the capability to assign cross-sells to a specific product, or to the website as a whole. This is accomplished by creating a small link and showing the image of the recommended product.

Using cross-sells and product recommendations in Configured Commerce can significantly boost sales by encouraging customers to purchase additional or complementary products. For example, a power tools manufacturer might use cross-sells to recommend compatible drill bits and safety gears, such as gloves or goggles, when a customer views a power drill. Thus this features enhance the customer experience by providing personalized suggestions, making it easier for customers to find relevant products.

How do I benefit from Cross-sells & Product Recommendations?

Here's how these features benefit different roles:

• Marketer: Recommending products to your customers is another way you can increase the amount your customers spend in one purchase. Recommend products that clearly work together, encouraging your customers to treat your site as a one-stop shop. You can also strategically recommend products on which you have higher margins, or products from brands that are currently offering you rebates or other discounts. Experiment with recommendations and see what combinations produce the most sales.
• Researcher/Buyer: These days, customers expect to see products and services recommended to them depending on their online consumer behavior. Recommending products and services to your customers is a great way to save them time and energy and keep them on your site as long as possible.

Assign a product as a product cross-sell

Product cross sells are related items assigned to a product. For example, assigning a light bulb as a product cross sell to a lamp that appears on the website. They often are used to entice customers into buying related products. Product cross sells appear on the Product Detail Page, in the Product Carousel widget's Related Products Carousel Type in the Product Cross Sells widget.

Assign a product as a web cross-sell

Web cross sells are more commonly known as Featured Products. This feature displays products within the Product Carousel widget's Web Cross Sells Carousel Type in the Product Cross Sells widget and helps promote additional, but not necessarily related products to site visitors. Items within the Web cross sells carousel may be tied to a monthly promotion or sales event.

Recommend products dynamically

Dynamic Product Recommendations lets you leverage order data to show relevant product recommendations to your customers. This functionality makes use of the cross sells/related products widget to make context and data driven product recommendations. It also minimizes the need to manually setup cross sells at the product level, while still allowing for manual assignment as needed.
