Source Dataset
Outline
What is a Source Dataset?
A source dataset is a logical table in Analytics that maps directly to a table, view, or SQL query in your connected data warehouse. It does not require any data to be copied or moved—Analytics reads from the warehouse in real time. Once created, source datasets can be used for direct analysis or as the foundation for building derived datasets.

Define an active event
An active event is any event that a user directly triggers—such as clicking a button or submitting a form. In Analytics, you can define active events by identifying cohorts within any event stream.
Defining active events is important because they are used in key features like Funnels. When setting up funnel stages in Analytics, only active events are available to choose from—helping you focus on meaningful, user-triggered actions.
If your event stream includes active event annotations, Analytics will surface only those events when you're building funnel stages. Without defining active events, those events won't appear in the funnel setup.
