Start using Opal - for Admins

Log in

If you are an administrator of an organization using Optimizely and Opal is enabled for your org, you can access it from Home or through the product switcher in the global navigation bar.

If you are new to Optimizely,

  1. Use Opti ID: Log in to Optimizely using your Opti ID. If you don't have an Opti ID set up for your organization, checkout this Get Started with Opti ID module and follow the steps.
  2. Switch Org (if applicable): _I_f you belong to multiple organizations, switch to the organization where Opal has been enabled.
  3. Navigate to Opal: Once you are in the right organization, you will see Opal as an option in your Optimizely Home. Click on it to enter the Opal environment.

Alternatively you can head over to the brand new Opal interface at opal.optimizely.com. And use your Opti ID to log in to Opal.

Manage Users and Permissions

Admins are responsible for adding users and managing permissions for Opal in the Opti ID Admin Center.

As an administrator, you can give users the following access:

  • Opal Administrator: Ability to manage settings, Connections, Agents, and Tools across all instances.
  • Opal User: Ability to use AI capabilities via Opal Chat across selected Optimizely product instances.

Open the following article and follow the instructions to manage roles and permissions for Opal users in the Opti ID Admin Center.

Check Usage

  1. Usage and Billing: In the Opti ID Admin Center, navigate to "Usage and Billing."
  2. Opal Information: You'll find a quick overview of credits purchased, remaining, and used, along with a daily usage breakdown and purchase history.
  3. Detailed Breakdown: Scroll down for more detailed usage information by user and by Optimizely product.

Start using Opal - for Users

To access Opal as a user, you must be invited by your organization’s administrator through the Opti ID Admin Center. The process begins with an email prompting you to get started with the product instance you’ve been invited to, just like with other Optimizely products.

All you need to do is accept the invitation and sign up for Opal. Once you’re successfully logged in, you can use Opti ID SSO to access your organization’s Opal instance for all future logins.

What displays in the Optimizely Opal app depends on your permission level. While users with Opal Administrator role can manage and customize Opal, those with Opal User permission can only use Opal Chat.

Configure & Manage Opal

If you are an administrator, you'll have additional options to manage Opal within your organization.

Enable Opal

  1. Access Connections: In the left navigation panel, click on 'Connections'.
  2. Control Product Access: This section allows you to easily manage where Opal is enabled. You can choose specific Optimizely products and instances where you want Opal to be active.
  3. Activate/Deactivate: Use the checkboxes beside each instance to enable or disable Opal's availability.

Customize Opal

You can customize Opal to tailor its behavior, responses, and integrations to match your organization's goals. By configuring custom instructions, agents, and tools, you can shape how Opal works with your team and systems, giving you a personalized experience instead of a one-size-fits-all approach.

Customizations ensure that Opal understands your brand voice, can access the right data, and performs actions that align with your workflows. There are several ways to customize Opal, depending on the level of control you need.

  • Instructions – Provide context that tells Opal how to behave and when to run. Instructions guide how Opal interprets requests and ensures consistent results.
  • Specialized agents – Build agents tailored to your organization’s unique processes. You control which tools they use, how they respond, and what workflows they execute.

  • Custom tools – Extend Opal’s capabilities by connecting it to your internal systems or third-party services through tools your organization creates.
