Understanding GEO Analytics
Outline
In this module, you will explore GEO Analytics, a new reporting capability in Optimizely CMS (PaaS) that provides visibility into how AI platforms crawl, consume, and reference your website content. Unlike traditional SEO tools, GEO Analytics helps content and digital teams understand how AI-driven experiences—such as ChatGPT and Gemini—discover and surface content, making AI visibility measurable and actionable.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Explain what GEO Analytics is and how it differs from traditional SEO reporting
- Interpret the crawl-to-refer ratio to assess real AI content usage
- Identify which AI agents are accessing your site and generating demand
- Analyze which pages AI platforms engage with most frequently
- Export and share GEO Analytics data to support reporting and decision-making
Why GEO Analytics Matters
As AI platforms increasingly become a primary entry point for content discovery, understanding how they interact with your site is critical. Traditional SEO tools focus on human search behavior, but they do not show how AI systems interpret or reference content. GEO Analytics fills this gap by enabling teams to evaluate real AI engagement, optimize high-value content, and align AI performance insights with broader content and SEO strategies.
GEO Analytics Overview
GEO Analytics is available from the Reporting area in the product switcher and introduces a dedicated reporting dashboard for AI visibility. It provides actionable insights into how AI platforms interact with your CMS content.
Crawl-to-Refer Ratio
The crawl-to-refer ratio answers a critical question: are AI crawlers simply visiting your site, or are they actively referencing your content in AI-generated answers?
- A high ratio indicates frequent crawling with low content usage
- A lower ratio indicates that your content is being surfaced in AI answers
This metric allows content teams to quantify AI visibility for the first time.
AI Agent Analysis
The AI agent analysis shows which AI platforms are accessing your site, how many requests they are making, and their share of total traffic. This visibility helps teams prioritize optimization efforts based on real AI demand rather than assumptions.
Top AI Request Volume Pages
This view highlights the top pages most frequently accessed by AI platforms. These pages represent content that AI systems are actively learning from or referencing. Teams can use this insight to refresh high-performing content, expand valuable pages, or model future content strategies.
Filtering and Operational Insights
GEO Analytics data can be filtered by site, time period, or launch window. This flexibility makes it especially useful for analyzing content migrations, campaigns, and experiments, allowing teams to monitor AI impact over time.
Exporting and Sharing Reports
All GEO Analytics tables can be downloaded as CSV files. These exports make it easy to share insights with leadership and align content, SEO, and digital teams around AI performance metrics.
