Why use Attributes?
Attributes make it easier to find products on your site because they enable common product features, also known as attributes, to be created and associated with products in your catalog. Attributes also help buyers quickly find products that match their specific requirements, reducing ordering errors and returns.
When attributes are set up, customers can:
Filter search results
Filter product categories while browsing
Display product attributes in tabs on the product details page
For example, create an attribute called "Color," and attribute values like "Red," "Blue," and "Green." Assign the attribute to a category, and the attribute values to products within that category. Then, when a user navigates to the category, they can select an attribute value to narrow down the products displayed on the product list page.
How do I benefit from Attributes?
Here's how Attributes functionality benefits different roles:
- Merchandiser: Attributes add another level of organizational detail that will help your customers find and compare the products in your catalog. This will give you the ability to more easily promote products that you want to emphasize.
- Researcher/Buyer: Attributes provide an easy way to filter search results. With attribute tabs turned on, you can provide more details about product features. This will empower you to make more informed buying decisions.
Create an attribute
Attributes are broad properties such as color, fabric, or wattage. These properties are assigned to a category, and attribute values (like red, cotton, or 60W) are assigned to products within that category. Use standardized names that match industry terminology. For example, instead of 'Power Level,' use 'Voltage' to align with supplier catalogs.

Create an attribute value
Attribute Values are the defined, valid values that are available for the specified Attribute. For example, if the Attribute is Size, possible Attribute Values could be: 28", 32", 46", and so on.

Assign attributes to a category
Attributes are assigned to categories of products that may share similar properties across all products. For example, a category of Goggles may share Attributes such as Lens Type, Size, and Gender.
