By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Understand how to create and structure pages and blocks

  • Recognize the role of page types and templates in maintaining consistency

  • Use the on-page editor and TinyMCE editor to add and edit content

  • Add reusable content blocks and assets to pages

  • Identify draft and published states and publish content confidently

Creating Pages

In Optimizely CMS, pages are built from page types, which define the layout, content areas, and available fields. Templates ensure a consistent structure across similar pages—such as blogs or landing pages—so your site remains organized and user-friendly.

When creating a new page, you select a page type, give it a name, and add content to predefined areas like headings, main body, or content blocks. You can edit text directly using the on-page editor and format it using the TinyMCE editor.

Templates are defined during implementation, so work closely with your development team to ensure you have the right page types for your site’s needs.

Creating Blocks

Blocks are reusable pieces of content that can be added to multiple pages or specific content areas. They can contain text, images, or other media, and can also connect to your Digital Asset Management (DAM) system if integrated.

You can create new blocks from the Assets panel or directly within a content area. Blocks created within a page are stored in the For This Page folder and are only available on that page.

Publishing and Collaboration

While editing, icons help you track progress:

  • A person icon shows another user is currently editing the content.

  • A pen icon shows the content is in draft and not yet published.

Once you’re ready, publish the content directly or schedule it for later. Published pages become visible on your live site immediately.

The following demo video will walk you through creating new pages and blocks, working with page types and templates, editing content, and publishing your changes:
