System Configuration Tools
Outline
In this module, you will learn about Categories, Plug-in Manager and Edit Tabs in Optimizely CMS. A category is a classification tag you can apply to content (pages, blocks, media, etc.) to help with filtering, search, or navigation. Plug-in Manager is a central tool for administrators to manage and configure various functionalities as plug-ins that integrate with the CMS. Tabs refer to a feature that allows administrators to customize the display of properties within the editing interface. This functionality is managed through the Edit Tabs feature.
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Understand what Categories are and how to configure them.
- Manage plug-ins with the Plug-in Manager.
- Use Edit Tabs to organize tabs, control their order, and set access levels
Category
A category is a classification mechanism for content. It's often referred to as a taxonomy or a system of classification. The primary role is to facilitate the creation of filtering features for search and navigation on a website. Categories are a built-in property within the CMS.
Note: The category system by itself doesn’t automatically change page output. Developers need to build logic (e.g. filtering, listing pages by category) that consumes the categories.
Plug-in Manager
Plug-in Manager is a tool designed for the integration and configuration of the Optimizely CMS. Many core CMS functions are implemented as plug-ins, and any additional plug-ins acquired by an organization can also be found and managed here. This allows for granular control over which features are active and available within the CMS environment.
Edit Tabs
Edit Tabs function allows you to customize how content properties are organized and presented to editors. This includes adding, editing, and deleting tabs, defining their display order, and applying access levels. Tabs are used in the CMS edit interface to group properties/fields into logical sections.
Here is an interactive demo which will guide you on the features discussed so far:
