Outline

In this module, you will learn about the Blocks Gadget in Optimizely CMS. Blocks are reusable pieces of content—such as banners, teasers, or form components—that can be placed on different pages across your website. While blocks are usually managed in the Assets pane, the Blocks Gadget allows you to add this functionality to other areas of your editing interface for easier access.

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Add the Blocks Gadget to any pane in the interface
  • Access and view your existing block folder structure
  • Create new blocks directly from the gadget
  • Understand how the Blocks Gadget mirrors the functionality of the Assets pane

Adding the Blocks Gadget

You can add the Blocks Gadget to the left-hand navigation pane or another pane through the Settings menuAdd gadget. While blocks are normally found in the Assets pane by default, this option gives you flexibility to work in a layout that best suits your workflow.

Viewing Blocks

Once added, the Blocks Gadget displays the same folder structure that exists in the Assets pane. This makes it easy to see all of your blocks at a glance without switching panels.

Creating Blocks

The gadget also allows you to create new blocks directly within it. This ensures you can manage both existing and new reusable content pieces without leaving the pane you’re working in.

When to Use

While most editors rely on the default Assets pane, the Blocks Gadget is particularly useful if you prefer to keep blocks visible alongside your page tree for quicker editing and reusability.
