Form Elements & Form Gadget
Outline
In this module, you will learn about the Form Elements Gadget in Optimizely CMS. This gadget provides a convenient way to access and manage all available form elements that can be used when building forms. While form elements are typically housed in the Assets pane, the gadget gives you flexibility to also view and work with them from the left-hand navigation area.
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Access and view all available form elements in the CMS
- Drag and drop form elements into a form container
- Understand how form elements appear in All Properties Editing View and On-Page Editing View
- Decide whether to use the gadget on the left-hand side or keep form elements in the Assets pane
Accessing Form Elements
Form elements are the building blocks of a form, such as text fields, number fields, file uploads, CAPTCHA, submit buttons, or steps. The gadget displays a complete list of these elements, making it easy to drag and drop them into an existing form container.
Working with Form Elements
- Open a form (e.g., a job application form) and use the gadget to add new fields.
- Drag and drop elements like address, date/time, or file upload into the form.
- Once added, the form can be updated and published immediately.
Integration with Editing Views
In All Properties Editing View, form elements are listed in a structured way for detailed configuration. In On-Page Editing View, changes made via the gadget are instantly visible in the form preview.
Placement Options
By default, form elements are available in the Assets pane. The gadget allows flexibility by enabling you to also manage form elements from the left-hand side navigation if that better fits your workflow.
