Outline

Welcome

In this module, you will learn about Data Ingestion and the uses of Integration under Data Setup.

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Define the concept of Data Ingestion and its purpose
  • Apply data integration through different methods

What is Data Ingestion?

Data ingestion refers to the various ways that ODP retrieves and integrates data from outside sources. These sources can range from websites, apps, email activity, to other forms of customer activity.

This helps keep data centralized in one place and enriches the value of the data. ODP uses this data to draw real-time insights regarding customer behavior and experience. This lets you improve your ability to target specific customers and make decisions based on data.

Data ingestion comes in the form of many kinds of integrations*.* An integration refers to a method of getting data into your ODP account—and sometimes includes exporting data from ODP to another platform, such as the way certain data can be archived in Amazon S3 storage.

Integrations

Integrations page contains some of ODP's most popular integrations. Each integration sends data into (ingest) or out of (activation) ODP:

  • Ingest – Data is sent into ODP from another system. For example, with the Zendesk integration, ODP ingests customer service ticket data from Zendesk (the data flows from Zendesk into ODP).
  • Activation – Data is sent out of ODP to another system. For example, with the Facebook integration, ODP activates audiences by sending them to Facebook for targeted advertising (the data flows from ODP to Facebook).

Integrations enable ODP to connect with various systems (e.g., CRM, e-commerce platforms, marketing automation) to gather customer data or to push segmented customer data back to those systems for activation.

When setting up a new ODP, instance, it's easy to import historical data from another source by manually uploading a CSV File.

Listed under Integrations, the base JavaScript Tag lets you send data into ODP from your website.
