What is Path Analysis?

Path Analysis helps you visualize the most common sequences of events users take within your product. It’s a powerful way to uncover behavioral patterns, identify unexpected user journeys, and optimize flows like onboarding, feature adoption, or checkout processes. Start with the basics: Paths Overview – Optimizely Documentation

What you can do with Path Analysis

  • Build a Path Analysis: Define a starting event (e.g., app_opened) or an ending event (e.g., payment_completed) to explore how users navigate before or after that action. Paths are automatically generated from your event stream to show the most frequent sequences. Learn how to set it up here: Build a Path Analysis

  • Interpret User Behavior Across Paths: Analyze which steps lead users to convert, drop off, or take alternate journeys. Filter by cohorts or event properties to compare behavior across segments. For interpretation guidance, visit: Understand Your Path Analysis

  • Create Beelines from Paths: Generate Beelines to monitor user flow trends over time and benchmark the consistency of specific sequences. How-to guide: Create Beelines from a Path Analysis
