Outline

In this module, you will learn about Digital Asset Management Asset Picker in Optimizely CMS. Digital Asset Management (DAM) Asset Picker lets you browse an asset collection. It is a user interface component that lets editors browse and select assets stored in the Optimizely Content Marketing Platform (CMP) DAM library from within other systems (e.g. Optimizely CMS).

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand the purpose of DAM Asset Picker.
  • Define the prerequisites of integration.
  • Use the asset picker to browse, select, and insert assets.

Purpose of DAM Asset Picker

The primary purpose of the Optimizely DAM Asset Picker is to enable users to efficiently browse, search, and select assets from their Digital Asset Management system. This means that instead of uploading assets directly to a specific page or block every time, content editors can leverage a pre-existing, organized library of approved assets.

Integration with Optimizely CMS

For the DAM Asset Picker to function within Optimizely CMS, a developer must perform an initial setup and integration. This involves:

  • Install and integrate the asset picker into the CMS environment.
  • The integration must include a UI button (or control) in CMS to open the asset picker window.
  • For CMS SaaS or newer CMS versions, you may need to onboard DAM to CMS by enabling the DAM picker feature.
  • The asset picker works via an endpoint (e.g. library-picker) in CMP, often opened as a standalone window or popup.

User Interaction

  • Initiate Selection: A content editor clicks Browse the Library button within the CMS editing interface.

  • Login to CMP: For the first-time use, the system will prompt the user to log into the Optimizely ContentMarketing Platform (CMP), which often houses the DAM. This ensures secure access to the asset library. After the initial login, the asset picker typically displays directly on subsequent uses.

  • Select Instance: If there are multiple instances or environments configured, the user might need to select the relevant instance from a pop-up window.

  • Browse and Choose Assets: The DAM Asset Picker interface opens, allowing the user to:-Browse through folders and categories of assets.
-Search for specific assets using keywords or filters.
    -View asset previews.
-Select one or more desired assets.

  • View Metadata: If only a single asset is selected, its associated metadata (e.g., description, tags, dimensions) is often displayed, providing context to the user.

  • Finalize Selection: The user clicks Choose button to confirm their selection. The chosen assets are then linked or embedded into the CMS content.
