Outline
In this module, you will learn how gadgets work in the Optimizely CMS editing interface. Gadgets are small tools that live within panes and provide quick access to essential functionality—such as navigation, assets, or recent activity. Understanding how to manage, rearrange, and customize gadgets will help you tailor your workspace for greater efficiency.
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Locate and access gadget settings within each pane
- Add or rearrange gadgets to personalize the editing interface
- Remove gadgets you don’t need, while understanding which gadgets cannot be removed
- Recognize the role of essential gadgets like Navigation and Assets
Accessing Gadget Settings
Each pane in the interface has a settings option, represented by a small cog icon in the top-right corner. Clicking this opens the settings area, where you can add new gadgets or rearrange existing ones.
Rearranging Gadgets
Selecting Rearrange gadgets allows you to move gadgets around or remove those you no longer use. For example, you may want the Recent gadget at the top for quick access, or you may choose to remove it if it’s no longer useful.
Essential Gadgets
Some gadgets cannot be deleted:
- Navigation Gadget – This controls the structure of the website and is a core part of daily editing tasks.
- Assets Gadget – This contains all media and reusable blocks, making it essential for content creation.
These gadgets are permanently available to ensure critical functionality is always accessible.
